What is a quotation?

A quotation (or estimate) is the price you offer before the sale: items, rates, GST and how long the price holds. It isn't a demand for payment and doesn't go into your GST return. Contractors, caterers, printers and shopkeepers send one so the customer can compare and say yes.

Quotation vs proforma invoice vs tax invoice

Quotation: an offer, sent first, can be revised. Proforma invoice: sent after the customer agrees, usually to collect an advance or for their purchase approval; still not a tax document. Tax invoice: issued when goods or services are supplied; this is the one that carries GST liability and the buyer's input tax credit. When the job is confirmed, tap "Convert to GST bill" and the same items open in our GST invoice generator.

Current GST slabs (updated for GST 2.0)

Since September 2025 the main GST rates are 0%, 5% and 18%, with 40% for luxury and sin goods and 3% for gold and jewellery. The old 12% and 28% slabs are gone, so a quotation template that still offers them is out of date. If one quote mixes rates, end that line with "@18%" or "@5%" and the tax is split per rate.
