How it works
Your browser reads the text from the PDF (or the rows of the CSV), finds every line that starts with a date and ends with an amount and a balance, and works out whether each one is a debit or a credit from how the balance moved. UPI narrations are split to find who you paid, and each spend is put in a category: food, groceries, shopping, travel, bills, rent and EMI, investments, subscriptions, cash and card bills.
Which banks work?
Most Indian banks whose statements list date, narration, amount and closing balance: HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Axis, Kotak and others. Password-protected PDFs are fine; enter the password your bank told you. If a PDF doesn't read well, download the CSV from your netbanking and use that instead.
Is my statement uploaded?
No. There is no server endpoint that could even receive it. The only thing fetched after you pick a file is the open-source PDF reader (pdf.js), and your file stays in this tab. Close the tab and it's gone.
